Pharmacies in Georgia: what is sold there and what is not
A pharmacy is the natural first association for supplements in Georgia. This page explains how the assortment there is formed and why a product’s absence does not mean anything is wrong with it.
The Georgian pharmacy market
Georgia’s pharmacy market is concentrated in several large chains with branches in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi and the regions. Independent pharmacies operate alongside them.
We write about how the market is arranged in general and claim no partnership with any chain. This page is informational.
How the assortment is formed
Shelf space in a pharmacy is a limited resource, and it goes to positions with stable, predictable demand: painkillers, vitamin D, magnesium, omega-3, large international brands.
A supplement with a comparatively narrow audience often does not fit that logic — because of turnover, not quality.
What a pharmacy genuinely offers
A pharmacy chain has several real advantages we would not deny.
- Controlled storage conditions
- A pharmacist you can ask about interactions
- A physical address and accountability
- The chance to examine the packaging in your hands before buying
What to ask a pharmacist
A pharmacist’s competence is often under-used. Three questions are worth asking.
- Does this component interact with the medicines I take
- Which form is better — magnesium citrate or oxide, for instance
- What should I notice if the product does not suit me
If a product is not in a pharmacy
That usually means one thing: its distribution model is different. Such products are distributed directly by the manufacturer in single orders, often with payment on delivery.
It is not an indicator of quality — neither good nor bad. It is simply a different channel that needs different checks.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ask a pharmacy to order a product for me?
Some chains accept individual orders if the product has a local distributor. If there is no distributor, the pharmacy cannot help.
Is something bought in a pharmacy always better?
Not automatically. A pharmacy has controlled storage, but the chain is still longer than buying directly from the manufacturer.
